How to Brighten Up Your Home with Ultra Violet
Move over, Greenery – there’s a new Pantone Color of the Year, along with all kinds of ways to incorporate it into your décor. Ultra Violet, a gorgeous shade of purple, has officially been crowned this year’s “it” color.
What’s behind this year’s choice? Pantone describes the color as “complex and contemplative,” saying it symbolizes possibilities, experimentation and non-conformity. Here are some ways to decorate with Ultra Violet and use it around the house.
1. Add Some Art
Think purple is a feminine color? Think again. Pantone reminds us that “Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality.” There are all kinds of paintings and prints available online that are Ultra Violet. Here are some specific examples of Hendrix, Prince, and Bowie artwork that would add a perfect pop of color to any room – but if you’re not a big music fan, there are lots of modern art and pop culture-related (“La La Land or “Star Wars,” anyone?) pieces to choose from.
2. Let Ultra Violet Bloom
If you enjoy gardening, you can add a touch of color outside your home. There are several different plants that are either Ultra Violet or a similar shade. For starters, check out the pasque flower, the Dahlia ‘Thomas Edison,’ or the Purple Sensation. If you don’t have a green thumb, you can always dress up any room with a fresh bouquet of tulips, violets or magnolias.
3. Paint an Accent Wall
An accent wall is a simple way to brighten up any room and give it a bit of character. Whether you want to add some color to your bedroom, living room or kitchen, just pick up a can of Ultra Violet-colored paint and go to town. Here are some tips to help you get started.
4. Knock on Ultra Violet’s Door
If you really want to make a statement and love the color, you can go for an Ultra Violet front door. The front door is one of the first things that people notice about your home. In fact, for centuries, front doors have told us stories of the residents within. From religious-influenced color choices and adornments, to classic- and modern-style craft designs, a front door can reveal a lot about yourself to passer-byers.
You don’t have to go full-on Ultra Violet to appreciate it – you can always dabble in it to accentuate your home. You can make your living room more vibrant with some throw pillows, a rug or a blanket. If your bathroom could use some updating, a new towel set is an easy option that doesn’t have to cost much money. Or if your shower curtain is outdated, you can change it out for a newer, Ultra Violet one.
